To Clog or Not to Clog

During Spring 2010 Fashion Week, high-heeled clogs were seen walking down Chanel's runway. Anything that Chanel starts becomes the hottest trend, so it's not surprising that these shoes have been the most talked about of the season. But, I'm still not sure how I feel about them. Don't get me wrong, I love the look Lagerfeld created for Chanel, but I don't know if I'll like the possible trend they'll turn into. I feel like a lot of stores could make them into ugly 90's styles. However, adding heels to them give them that vintage 70's style which I'm sort of diggin'.

Inspiration from the Runway

Styles that don't work...

I think that the higher the heel is in proportion to the toe, the better. The heels make the toes curvier and less flat than the clogs shown above. When the toes are flat, they make anyone's legs look stubby, but when a heel is added, it elongates the legs and avoids that frumpy hippie look. Also, when there's too much of a tread or tacky buckles on them it cheapens the look. I would keep them sleek and simple with maybe a few embellishments here or there. Some overdone embellishments look okay as long as the shoe is leather and it has a rougher look that fits the studs and big buckles. Think of them as leather jackets...the edgy but feminine ones are the best. They look good when they are simple and fitted and have a couple buckles or studs. Any jackets that are too big or have tacky fringe, should only be seen on the Hell's Angels. In this case, leave the dingy clogs to nurses.

  1. I totally agree with you! I think some clogs work, and some don't. I really like the Chanel ones! The Louis Vuitton ones.....ehh....They may be great for high fashion but I'm not really feeling them...

  3. I'm so glad you posted your blog link, because I love it! I just read a feature in Nylon about clogs, and found it interesting that they are making their way back into the fashion scene after being shunned for so long. Although I personally wouldn't wear them, I think the sleek, high heeled ones would look nice with the right outfit. Good, informative post!

  5. I agree with you! I feel like if I start wearing them now that the trend will end too soon and I'll feel like I was kinda dumb to buy them in the first place. haha I like the ones from Chanel but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd rather spend money on a shoe that will still be fashionable in the near future.

  8. i like this feature! I'm having the big clog debate with myself as well... I was definitely not old enough to rock em in the early 90s, and now I'd like the chance, but you nailed it when you said we dont wanna look like 90s clones! I think a chunky wedge, or the super-low heel cheapen the look infinitely. The styles with the thicker heel that you poster are absolutely gorgeous, and if i do manage to get my hands on a pair this time around, they will definitely be along those lines.

  10. I'm so for the clog, but it's hard trying to find the perfect kind with a style that isn't so ugly!

  13. I'm a little bit afraid of this trend. They've been considered ugly for such a long time that it's difficult for me to work it out of my system. We'll see though :)

  17. Oohh, tough call.

I think I'd have to see these in combination with some clothing. Just looking at them by themselves, I'm not a fan.

What would you wear these with?
