Behind the Runway

It's the beginning of New York Fall 2011 Fashion Week and I've been enjoying live streaming of shows from First Comes Fashion. Meanwhile, everyone has been talking about the spring runways and I've been sifting through all the highlights. I often find that seeing what goes on behind the scenes can be just as fascinating as watching the actual performance. That's why I love looking through photographs of all the backstage chaos before a big fashion show. You often see models surfing the web on their laptops, chatting it up with their friends, zoning out with a good read, listening to music on their iPods, or munching on snacks (yes, models actually eat!) while they're getting their hair and makeup done or while they are waiting to get dressed. At the other end are all the hair stylists, makeup artists, assistants, publicists, photographers, journalists, and designers who are scrambling for every bit of time they can salvage. All these make for great shots that are often much more candid and entertaining than the shows themselves. Take a look at some of the best moments of the spring runways with some snapshots that I found particularly interesting. I spiced them up by playing around with the graphics, hoping to emphasize all the wonderful patterns, smiles, colors, fabrics, and poses that make each one so unique. Look at every part of each picture, because you wouldn't want to miss anything. Sometimes that best part of the photo is what's going on in the background!
