Saying Goodbye to Another Decade

I'm not doing much to celebrate tonight, but I’ve been having fun looking back at the last ten years of outfits, movies, books, parties, music, celebrities, events, and memories. I think of past decades and how each one had specific fads and personalities- the 50's with rock n' roll and poodle skirts, the 60's with mod mini dresses and peace signs, the 70's with bell-bottoms and disco clubs, the 80’s with big hair and cassette tapes, and the 90's with mom jeans and boy bands. But if we were to define these past ten years, how would we describe them? All that I think of is a big blur of the things that happened, inventions made, and clothes worn. There have been so many ways people dressed in 2000-2010 that there isn't one typical style that portrays this decade. Here are just a few words that come to mind...

iPhones, skinny jeans, September 11th, global warming, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, eco-chic, Gossip Girl, Britney Spears, Iraq, USBs, Hurricane Katrina, Lady Gaga, terrorists, digital cameras, texting, H1N1, Barack Obama, The Kite Runner, off-the-shoulder dresses, Latisse, Slumdog Millionaire, Fashion Rocks, tainted spinach, and American Idol.

...and check out these fun flashbacks of the decade and hopes for a new one.

Happy New Years!!

Tokyo Street Inspiration

Sometimes I'm inspired by simple and classy, but then other days I think it's really cool to marvel at the type who aren't scared of anything and will try just about everything when it comes to fashion. On fashionsnap.com there are pictures everyday of the citizens of Japan and it's fun to look at their unique outfits. Now designers are even turning to the streets of Tokyo for new ideas. You'll never see me wearing  clothes quite like these, but it's still inspiring to look at daring outfits.

How To Wear a Tube Top in the Winter

Now that's it's winter, all of your summer tops are probably put away or way down deep in the depths of your dresser. But just because the weather's gotten colder, doesn't mean you need to brush your summer apparel to the side. I have this green graphic floral tube top that inspired me to try something different. The color was perfect for my family get-together on Christmas Eve, but I knew I had to pair it with something much warmer. I added a long brown sweater (wearing it in a cape style) that gave me just enough coverage on my shoulders. Layering can be a lot of fun when you mix bulky sweaters with flowy tops, don't be afraid to experiment with different textures, lengths, and thicknesses!

My Christmas Lust List

I'm so excited for Christmas! It's my favorite holiday, although I love the whole Christmas season, in general! Being with friends and family, baking cookies, layering with cute sweaters, jolly decorations, and singing along with Christmas songs, what more could you want in a holiday?

Every year I give my parents a huge, detailed list of all the things I want. I make sure to include pictures, links to where I found them, and a star rating of how much I want them. I know, I get really into it! Here are some of the things at the top of my list that I'm asking for...

The Perfect Bag for Aspiring Journalists

Whenever I see newspaper print on clothes or accessories, I'm immediately intrigued. I don't know whether it's the journalist inside of me or because it's not something I see on a regular basis. I found this one by John Galliano while browsing sample sale boutiques online. It's no longer on the site now, but I'm blogging about it anyhow. My favorite part of the purse is that if you look closely, you can read the stories that were printed on the fabric.

Thinking of Resort 2010

Today I had a lovely snow day, so I was able to sit in my pjs all day, hang out with my sisters and mom, eating way too much food, and decorating my room for Christmas. I have a cute mini tree I put up every year with tiny ornaments and garlands!

I haven't told you all yet, I now have my blog on bloglovin' so you can get notified every time I post something new! Go to http://www.bloglovin.com/en/blog/1153511/jennys-open-closet to follow my blog!

Also, I really have to thank all of you guys that have been following me, whether it's on Facebook, Google, Twitter, Weardrobe, or Chictopia. It makes my day when I receive your comments and every new follower is like meeting a new friend!

Digressing from all the snow and winter weather, I always love looking at designer's resort lines because they're so fresh, fun, and simple. They're the type of clothes you can picture yourself wearing on a Caribbean cruise, lounging on the deck, sipping ice-cold drinks, while soaking up the sun and warm sea breeze. A-a-a-a-ah...a nice escape from reality while the snow is falling! There were so many really great resort lines, but here are a few of my favorites.

3.1 Phillip Lim

Chanel

Chloe

Emilio Pucci

Gorgio Armani

Issac Mizrahi

Jonathan Saunders

Moschino Cheap and Chic

Moschino

Proenza Schouler

First Winter's Snow

Okay, well it's not winter yet, but it may as well be! This weekend I got into the holiday spirit with some Christmas music and cookie baking. It made everything even more perfect when I was in my holiday groove and the snow started falling. Even though winter is my least favorite season, mainly because I hate the cold, I can't stand a Christmas without snow. We got a good amount, and personally, I would be all set if this was the only snow we got all winter...ha! Too bad I live in New Hampshire!

A Man with Style

Kanye West has become one of the most stylish men in the music industry. He may not be known for being the most humble, but when it comes to fashion he's at the top. He started by applying for internships at European fashion houses and then moved on to collaborating with Nike and Louis Vuitton. He's recently launched his clothing line, Pastelle. Some clothes from this line were worn in his music video "Good Life."

"...I always say I was a designer before I was a rapper, and I really wanted to get into design."

He's a man who...

...attends fashion shows to see the clothes,
not just to be seen in them.

....mixes patterns with ease.

...looks hot in hot-pink.

...can pull off a tux with sneakers.

...isn't afraid of bold accessories.

 ...knows how to wear scarves.

...and has his own shoe line for Louis Vuitton (released this summer).

Happy Friday!

Sonia Rykiel-Resort 2010

It's been very hectic this week with my drama rehearsals nearing an end, while the hours get longer. I'm so excited tonight is opening night! We're performing a series of short plays by David Ives.

I love Valencia's recent post on Roll up Your Sleeve, she wore this cute poncho from Forever 21 that I want so badly! I'm definitely going to need a shopping trip there soon!

Hope you all have a lovely Friday!
