A Disappointing Fate

Christian Dior made it public today...they have fired John Galliano because of his drunken racist rant that was caught on film and surfaced yesterday. It went viral and the label took immediate measures. The decision was the right thing to do, but I am crushed that they have let go of such a creative genius. I have a hard time believing that they will find anyone as inspiring to take his place.

Dear John Galliano,

You have disappointed me greatly. What you said was clearly wrong but I stand to wonder if you still would've said it had it not been for your drunkenness. I feel betrayed that for all these years you have been a symbol of greatness to me, yet you have fallen by disgrace. Your designs are mesmerizing and they transport me to a world that no one else can. Your creativity surpasses your competition. You and Dior were a match made in heaven until you screwed things up. They will forever be lacking your splendor.

Farewell,
Jenny

PS-Please clean up your act and continue making beautiful clothes.

Galliano Never Ceases to Impress

I know the spring runways are a little past their time now and everyone's talking about fall, but can I just say how AMAZING I thought John Gallino's Spring 2010 fashion show was?!! I watched it on my iPod while on my way to NYC last week and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. He always makes such awesome productions of his runway lines and every season uses a new way to creatively present the clothing. This time, he had the models go down a red, glowing runway lit by lasers. As they walked, they were surrounded by balloon-like bubbles. But you soon realize they aren't balloons because they hit the floor and make clouds of vapor! Of course, the clothes themselves were just as magical as the presentation. The collection was inspired by old-fashion cinema and silent-movie actresses. Layers of light-as-air chiffon were paired with lace and floaty dresses were worn with structured jackets. Every outfit had a special headpiece made to accentuate each look.

Currently in Love With...

...this dress from the Carolina Herra
Pre-Fall Collection,

Nina Ricci's Pre-Fall Collection,

Galliano's masterpieces for Christian Dior's Pre-Fall Collection,

Johnny Depp's cover on GQ,

the Marc Jacobs Stam Bag,

and these outfits by three stylish lookbook icons.

It's only a week away from Valentine's Day so I've listed the things that currently have my heart. There are some really great Pre-Fall Collections that have surfaced and I had to show you some of my favorites. Dior's totally captivated me (I couldn't pick just a few looks so I put up practically the whole collection)! I love, love, love the 1940's look, mixing both the glamorous gowns and fur with leather jackets and army helmets. It shows both sides of the WWII era in a very wearable way.

This month Johnny Depp was on the cover of GQ. He really is the only man on earth who can get older and still be just as sexy! I have seriously contemplated subscribing to GQ because there's always one of my favorite guys on the cover! One time I saw Channing Tatum in an issue while I was at the grocery store. I didn't have money with me, so I almost tore out the pages and made a mad dash for it!

My current obsession, accessory wise, is the Marc Jacobs "Stam" bag. Named after one of my favorite models, Jessica Stam, it comes in both normal and mini sizes and would definitely be big enough to fit my life in! I always have to carry a huge purse at school in order to fit all my make-up, books (not text books, but reading books), pencils, and random stuff you probably wouldn't even want to know about. The bag I use now has already had enough, after only one semester. I jammed so much in it, the zipper broke!

I can spend hours on LOOKBOOK.nu, looking at all the marvelous outfits! There are so many that I wish were my outfits instead. I also envy the serious photographers who use really nice cameras and have those perfect looking pictures. I love my camera, but I think it's getting a little old. The quality of my pictures don't come out as well as they used to, and I think it would help to have better flash options. Maybe for my birthday I'll ask for another camera...something more advanced, while I'll still keep the one I have for fun pictures with friends and family.

P.S.
I ordered my prom dress on gilt groupe last week! I'm so excited for it to arrive! It's a navy, brocade Badgley Mischka gown. My favorite part is this really pretty train that cascades down the back. I know I had a navy dress last year, but it's quite a lot different. I think I just have a thing for navy dresses!
Look for pictures in May!

The Perfect Bag for Aspiring Journalists

Whenever I see newspaper print on clothes or accessories, I'm immediately intrigued. I don't know whether it's the journalist inside of me or because it's not something I see on a regular basis. I found this one by John Galliano while browsing sample sale boutiques online. It's no longer on the site now, but I'm blogging about it anyhow. My favorite part of the purse is that if you look closely, you can read the stories that were printed on the fabric.

More Fresh Looks to Add to Any Wardrobe

Chloe:
This runway collection was simple and feminine, but my favorite parts were the cute bow belts wrapped around shorts and dresses. What I love most about this look is that it's so easy to pull off. Just wrapping a ribbon around simple pants and tying it in a bow adds a girly touch. You could even use a metallic ribbon for a more eccentric look. Low slung leather belts are sooo last year!

Versace:
At first, the runway seemed to be a normal Donatella production, but in the middle, three adorable ocean-inspired maxi-dresses interrupted the parade of mini dresses. I fall in love with every ocean themed object that comes my way, but this last dress was just jaw dropping. It's definitely the type of dress that would add a unique new pattern to my wardrobe, even though I'm not really a fan of the maxi-dress trend.
Blumarine:
The major theme in Blumarine's spring fashion show was that one must attain the right balance of bright colors and nudes. If you wear a nude dress, add a bright belt, shoes, or jewelry. Nude is a color you can wear more sequins and beads with because it's such a basic color. So don't be afraid to go with a little more than you usually do! ADAM:
Adam Lippes used fabrics that would be thought of as only for sleepwear in his everyday clothing line. The satin draw-string pants were my favorites and the sweaters mixed among everything else gave the whole show a very relaxed feeling. I'm not saying, "Lets all roam the streets in our pj's!" but add a couple pieces to your wardrobe that are great for days when you aren't looking forward to squeezing into tight jeans. As long as you get cropped pants in satin or slouchy sweaters in cashmere and pair them with other elements you normally wear during the day, you'll looked pulled together but relaxed. Also, only wearing one nighttime piece will balance it out so it doesn't look like you just rolled out of bed!
John Galliano:
You can always count on John Galliano for an eccentric and entertaining show! Among the military and British themes were cute flapper-inspired dresses. This is certainly a dress my closet could use. I liked that John strayed from the normal colors of the 1920's and made these dresses bright instead. You could either wear them the classic way with t-straps and a knotted strand of pearls or wear them the modern way with chunky layered necklaces and cut-out heels.

What's a Girl to Do On a Rainy Day Like Today?

It's been raining practically all summer so far, and there's really been only a couple hot, sunny days. So what better time to sit at the computer all day?

I've come up with a list of spring runways to get inspiration from:

  • Alice & Olivia
  • John Galliano
  • ADAM
  • Blumarine
  • Versace
  • Chloe
  • Collette Dinnigan
  • Elie Saab
  • Martin Grant
  • DKNY
  • Chanel
  • Isaac Mizrahi

(DKNY)

I took a virtual tour through the Bass/van der Woodsen apartment of Gossip Girl on style.com.

I took a quiz on style.com on how much I know about couture....which I did terribly on!

I went to InStyle's virtual Hollywood Makeover Salon and tried on a few celebrity hairstyles.

And the rest of the day I looked at Resort 2010 collections. http://www.style.com/fashionshows/collections/2010RST/
