I've had the idea of transforming a frumpy 90s dress for a while now. What better time is there than right before summer starts? I got this boxy, yellow floral dress at a thrift store a while back, and with a little cutting and hemming I turned it into a cute summer frock! I already loved the pattern, it was just the style that needed some reworking. Before, the hem came below my knees, so my first order of business was to chop that horrible length off! I love a good maxi dress, but this was just a baggy, puritan mess. Then, I had to get rid of the boxy sleeves that went all the way down to my elbows. After that, it started to look like a wearable dress. I made a couple more adjustments so it was a bit more fitted. I made the neckline a bit lower and cinched in the sides below the armholes. Overall, it didn't take me long to make all these changes (about a day's worth of pinning and sewing) and it was such an easy way to gain another sundress for the nice weather. I'm still nowhere near an expert sewer (my hems are far from perfect) but I like pushing myself to get better just by doing things my own way and learning from my mistakes.
